Dell EqualLogic PS Series — iSCSI SAN Storage

Enterasource stocks refurbished Dell EqualLogic PS-series iSCSI SAN arrays. EqualLogic is an IP-based block storage platform that delivers SAN functionality over standard Ethernet — no Fibre Channel switches or HBAs required. PS-series arrays use a peer-storage architecture where multiple array members in the same group automatically pool capacity and load-balance I/O, managed through a single Group Manager interface.

EqualLogic reached end-of-sale as Dell transitioned its SAN portfolio to the SC-series and Unity platforms. However, PS-series arrays remain widely deployed in production environments, particularly in organizations that built their storage infrastructure around EqualLogic’s straightforward iSCSI management. Enterasource supplies tested PS-series arrays and replacement hardware for organizations maintaining these deployments.

Dell EqualLogic PS Series Models and Architecture

EqualLogic PS-series arrays use a consistent architecture across all models: each array is a 2U chassis with two controllers (active-active in dual-controller models), a battery-backed write cache, and up to 24 drive bays depending on the model. Controllers connect to the network via 1GbE or 10GbE iSCSI ports; storage is presented to hosts via standard iSCSI initiators available on all major operating systems.

PS Series Model Overview

Model Drive Bays Drive Type Network Notes
PS4110 24 x 2.5" SFF SAS or SSD 10GbE iSCSI Entry SAN, 10GbE connectivity
PS4210 24 x 2.5" SFF SAS, SSD, or hybrid 10GbE iSCSI Updated PS4110; hybrid flash tier option
PS6100 24 x 2.5" SFF SAS 1GbE iSCSI Mid-range SAN, 1GbE
PS6110 24 x 2.5" SFF SAS 10GbE iSCSI Updated PS6100; 10GbE connectivity
PS6210 24 x 2.5" SFF SAS, SSD, or hybrid 10GbE iSCSI Current-gen PS-series; hybrid flash option
PS6610 24 x 3.5" LFF NL-SAS 10GbE iSCSI High-capacity bulk storage

EqualLogic Group Manager and Peer Storage

EqualLogic’s Group Manager is a browser-based management interface that treats all PS-series arrays in the same iSCSI group as a unified storage pool. Adding a new array to the group automatically expands the pool and rebalances volumes across all members. This peer-storage architecture is one of EqualLogic’s most operationally convenient features — no manual LUN migration required when adding capacity.

Migrating from EqualLogic

Organizations looking to migrate off EqualLogic typically move to Dell PowerVault ME-series (for simpler DAS/entry SAN requirements) or Dell Compellent SC-series (for more sophisticated tiering and replication). HPE Nimble’s iSCSI connectivity also makes it a common migration target. Enterasource can supply both the replacement platform and the ongoing EqualLogic hardware needed during a phased migration.

Is Dell EqualLogic still supported by Dell?
Dell EqualLogic reached end-of-life and end-of-support. Dell no longer provides software updates or hardware support contracts for PS-series arrays. Organizations running EqualLogic in production should evaluate their timeline for migration. For hardware spare parts and replacement arrays, Enterasource provides tested PS-series units regardless of Dell support status.
