We Buy Enterprise IT Hardware Directly

Most IT equipment buyback companies flip your hardware through auction houses and secondary brokers, which means you see a fraction of what it is actually worth. Enterasource is different: we are a buyer and a seller. Equipment you sell to us goes directly into our own B2B e-commerce inventory at enterasource.com, where it is tested, configured, and resold to IT teams at businesses, universities, and managed service providers. Because we skip the middleman, we can offer stronger buyback pricing for hardware that matches our active demand.

Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Irvine, California, we have built our reputation on straightforward transactions and technical accuracy, backed by consistently top-rated reviews from IT administrators and procurement managers who have bought from us and sold to us.

  • Quotes within 1-2 business days, valid for 30 days
  • Prepaid shipping labels on qualifying orders (free ground to the lower 48 states)
  • Software-based data wiping with certificates of destruction
  • Single servers to full rack decommissions

What Equipment Do We Buy?

Enterasource deals exclusively in enterprise IT hardware. We do not buy consumer electronics, desktops, laptops, or printers. If it was racked in a data center or bolted into a server room, we are likely interested.

Servers

We buy rack and tower servers from Dell, HPE, SuperMicro, and Lenovo. The models in highest demand are 14th through 16th generation Dell PowerEdge systems: the R640 and R740 (14th gen), R650 and R750 (15th gen), and R660 and R760 (16th gen). We also purchase HPE ProLiant DL360, DL380, DL560, and DL580 platforms, Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 and SR850, and SuperMicro 1U/2U/4U systems. Older-generation hardware is accepted too — pricing reflects demand for that generation and configuration.

Networking Equipment

We purchase switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure from Cisco (Catalyst and Nexus series), Palo Alto Networks (PA-Series firewalls), Juniper (EX and QFX series), Arista (7000-series), and HPE Aruba. Campus switching and data center switching from the past five to seven years typically holds strong resale value.

Storage Arrays

We buy SAN, NAS, and DAS platforms from Dell EMC (PowerVault, Unity, PowerStore), NetApp (FAS, AFF), HPE (Nimble, 3PAR, StoreOnce), and Pure Storage. Bare drives are also purchased in quantity: SAS, SATA, SSD, and NVMe.

Components and Memory

Individual server components are where the market is particularly strong. Enterprise DDR4 and DDR5 memory modules retain significant resale value, which means your surplus memory may be worth more than you expect. Beyond memory, we buy Intel Xeon Scalable processors (1st through 5th gen), enterprise SSDs and NVMe drives, GPU accelerator cards, and RAID controllers.

How the IT Equipment Buyback Process Works

From initial submission to payment, most transactions complete within 7–10 business days.

1

Submit Your Equipment List

Fill out the form below or email [email protected] with your asset details — manufacturer, model, configuration, serial number, and condition notes.

2

Receive Your Quote (1–2 Business Days)

Our procurement team prices each item based on market demand for that specific model and configuration. You receive a line-item breakdown — one price per asset, not a lump-sum number. Quotes are valid for 30 days, no obligation.

3

Pack Your Equipment

Package hardware securely for transit — original packaging or double-walled boxes with foam inserts. If you need guidance on packing standards, we will walk you through it.

4

Ship It — We Provide Labels

We provide prepaid shipping labels for qualifying orders. For large-scale projects involving multiple racks or pallets, we coordinate freight logistics directly, including on-site pickup.

5

We Evaluate Your Hardware

Equipment arrives at our Irvine, CA facility where technicians inspect every unit, run diagnostics, and verify configurations. Data-bearing drives undergo software-based wiping with a certificate of destruction issued per drive.

6

Payment

Payment is issued after inspection. If condition differs from your description, we contact you before adjusting — we never silently reduce payment. Expect payment within a few business days of receiving your equipment.

Why Sell to Enterasource?

Direct Resale Means Better Pricing

When you sell to Enterasource, your equipment goes into our own retail and B2B inventory. We refurbish it, test it, list it on our site, and sell it directly to the next IT team. That shorter chain means we can pay more for equipment we know we can move.

Line-Item Quotes in 1-2 Business Days

We quote every asset individually so you can see exactly what each piece is worth. No vague lump-sum offers, no drawn-out negotiation. Quotes are valid for 30 days, no obligation.

Data Wiping with Certificates

Every data-bearing drive receives software-based data sanitization. We issue certificates of destruction as a standard part of every buyback transaction — not as a paid add-on.

Free Shipping to the Lower 48

Prepaid shipping labels are provided for qualifying buyback orders. You do not arrange or pay for standard shipping. For palletized or multi-rack shipments, we handle freight coordination separately.

We Know This Hardware

What Determines the Value of Used IT Equipment?

If you have a rough sense of how the resale market works, you will set better expectations and submit a stronger asset list. Here are the factors our procurement team weighs.

Generation Is the Single Biggest Factor

Dell PowerEdge generation matters more than almost anything else in server pricing. A 16th generation system (R660, R760) holds the vast majority of its original value if it is under two years old. A 14th generation system (R640, R740) — which was the workhorse of data centers from 2018-2022 — still commands meaningful resale value, especially in higher configurations. A 13th generation system (R630, R730) still has a market, but it runs DDR4 (not DDR3 as many assume — the 13th gen PowerEdge was the first DDR4 generation), and pricing reflects the older platform.

Configuration Swings Value Dramatically

Two physically identical R740 chassis can have wildly different resale values depending on what is inside them. Dual Intel Xeon Platinum 8200-series processors, 512GB or more of DDR4 RDIMM, and NVMe storage drives represent a high-value configuration. The same chassis with a single Bronze CPU and 32GB RAM is worth a fraction of that.

Memory Is Especially Valuable

Enterprise DDR4 and DDR5 server memory modules consistently hold strong resale value. High-capacity RDIMMs and LRDIMMs are in steady demand across the secondary market, and enterprise memory retains its value better than most other server components. If you are decommissioning servers with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB+ of installed DDR4 or DDR5, the memory alone may represent a significant portion of the total buyback value. Submit your DIMM details (capacity, speed, manufacturer) for the most accurate pricing.

Condition and Completeness

Equipment that powers on, passes diagnostics, and ships complete — with rail kits, bezels, power supplies, and drive caddies — commands higher pricing than incomplete units. That said, we do buy equipment in less-than-perfect condition. Cosmetic wear, missing bezels, and even failed individual components do not disqualify a unit. Be honest in your condition notes and we will price accordingly.

Market Demand Shifts Seasonally

Enterprise IT refresh cycles follow fiscal-year patterns. Buyback volume and pricing both tend to spike in Q3 and Q4 as organizations decommission aging infrastructure before budget deadlines. If you have flexibility on timing, reaching out early in the quarter can sometimes improve turnaround times.

Frequently Asked Questions

How quickly will I receive a quote after submitting my equipment list?+

Enterasource responds to all buyback inquiries within 1-2 business days. The quote arrives via email as a line-item breakdown — one price for each asset in your submission. Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue. There is no fee for receiving a quote and no obligation to accept. If your list is large (100+ assets), it may take slightly longer to price each item individually, but we will confirm receipt and provide a timeline.

What condition does equipment need to be in?+

We accept equipment in a range of conditions. Fully functional, tested units get the strongest pricing, but we also purchase partially functional, cosmetically worn, and in some cases non-functional hardware — depending on the model and the salvage value of its components. Equipment does not need to be tested, wiped, or cleaned before you submit it. What matters most is accuracy: describe the actual condition in your asset list. Significant discrepancies between what you describe and what our technicians find on inspection can result in a revised quote.

Do you only buy in bulk, or can I sell a single server?+

Both. We purchase individual servers, switches, and components as well as multi-rack decommissioning projects with hundreds of assets. For a single unit, pricing is based on the model, configuration, and condition. For larger batches, we may be able to offer enhanced logistics support or expedited processing. There is no minimum quantity.

How is shipping handled?+

For standard buyback orders that meet our minimum threshold, we provide prepaid shipping labels. You schedule pickup with the carrier or drop off at a shipping location — we cover the cost. For larger projects involving palletized freight, partial or full rack shipments, we coordinate logistics directly and can arrange on-site pickup. You are never required to arrange or pay for shipping on a standard Enterasource buyback transaction.

Do you provide data destruction certificates?+

Yes. All data-bearing media — hard drives, SSDs, NVMe drives — processed through our facility undergoes software-based data sanitization. We issue a certificate of destruction for each individual drive, documenting the serial number, sanitization method, and date processed. These certificates are provided as a standard part of every buyback transaction at no additional cost. If you have specific compliance requirements, note them in your submission and we will ensure the documentation meets your needs.

Where can I sell used enterprise IT equipment?+

Enterasource purchases used enterprise IT hardware directly from businesses, data centers, MSPs, and IT departments across the United States. You can submit your asset list through the form on this page, by email at [email protected], or by phone at (949) 242-8158. We are based in Irvine, California and serve customers nationwide — there is no geographic restriction within the lower 48 states. For a broader IT asset disposition program that includes decommissioning and project management, see our ITAD services page.

How much are used Dell PowerEdge servers worth?+

It depends entirely on the generation, configuration, and condition. As a general rule: newer generations and higher configurations recover a significantly larger share of their original purchase price. A well-configured 15th or 16th generation PowerEdge (R650, R750, R660, R760) with current-generation Xeon Scalable processors and substantial DDR4 or DDR5 memory holds strong value. A 14th generation system (R640, R740) in good condition with a solid configuration still commands a healthy resale price. Older 13th generation systems (R630, R730) have a smaller but active market. The best way to get an accurate number is to send us your specific model, serial number, and configuration details.

Is it better to sell or recycle old servers?+

For any enterprise server manufactured in the last 10-12 years that still powers on, selling will almost always net you significantly more than recycling. Recycling produces scrap metal value — literally pennies per pound for steel and aluminum, a few dollars per pound for copper. A working R640 with reasonable specs, by contrast, has resale value measured in hundreds or thousands of dollars. Even older servers with minimal resale value as complete systems often have components (memory, CPUs, drives) that individually exceed what the entire chassis would bring as scrap. Recycling makes sense only when hardware is genuinely beyond any functional use. For everything else, get a buyback quote first.

Do IT equipment buyback companies wipe data?+

Reputable ones do. Enterasource performs software-based data sanitization on every data-bearing drive before any equipment is resold or remarketed. We issue certificates of destruction for all drives processed. If you are evaluating potential buyers, ask them specifically: what sanitization method do they use, do they issue per-drive certificates, and will they accommodate your compliance requirements? Any buyer who cannot answer those questions clearly should raise a flag.

What used IT equipment has the highest resale value?+

The highest-value categories are DDR4 and DDR5 server memory modules, Intel Xeon Scalable processors (3rd, 4th, and 5th gen), enterprise NVMe SSDs, and GPU compute cards (NVIDIA A100, H100, L40S). Among complete systems, 15th and 16th generation Dell PowerEdge and HPE ProLiant servers in working condition with high-end configurations command the strongest prices. Cisco Catalyst 9000-series and Nexus 9000-series switching also holds well.

Do you buy used Cisco switches and routers?+

Yes. We purchase Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, and ASR platforms as well as routers and firewall appliances. Cisco networking hardware from the past five to seven years generally has strong resale value, with campus switching (Catalyst 9200, 9300, 9500) and data center switching (Nexus 9300, 9500) seeing the most consistent demand. Older Catalyst 2960/3850 and Nexus 5000/7000 platforms still have a market but at lower price points. If you have Cisco gear to sell, include the model number and the number of units — we will price each one.

What is the best way to sell decommissioned servers?+

Start with a detailed asset list. The single most common delay in the buyback process is a vague initial submission — "we have about 20 servers" does not give a buyer enough information to quote accurately. Before reaching out, compile: manufacturer, model number, CPU model and count, total installed RAM, drive type/capacity/count, serial number, and honest condition notes. If your organization uses an asset management platform (ServiceNow, Lansweeper, Device42), an export from that system is ideal. Buyers who receive complete information upfront can provide faster quotes with fewer back-and-forth rounds, and the resulting offers tend to be higher because there is less uncertainty to discount for.
